Yukari finds a box containing a small kitten at the school. She wants one of the girls to take care of it, but since none of them can, they wonder what to do with it instead and once it has woken up, each of them hold it while they are talking. However, when it is Sakaki's turn, the kitten jumps away, never to be seen again.
Referbacks[]
Tomo says that she cannot accept the kitten since she already has a dog, which she mentioned in an earlier chapter.
Sakaki said earlier that her parents won't let her have a pet. This comes up here too, as well as, needless to say, Sakaki's undying love for cats and their unspecified problem with her.
Sakaki fantasizes about the kitten, which she secretly named Marco, going off on an adventure of its own, "like in 3,000 Leagues in Search of Mother". This is a reference to the 1970s anime series of the same name, the protagonist of which is named Marco.
