  • In this chapter, we are introduced to the "Yukarimobile," Yukari's parents' old car. In an earlier chapter, she hints that she crashed when she last practiced driving it, and from the looks of the car, this appears to be correct.
  • Chiyo-chan says to Yomi that she always loses at Rock-paper-scissors, which is why she had to be traumatized from riding in the Yukarimobile.

Cultural References[]

  • In this chapter, Osaka and Chiyo both get jobs at "Magnetron Hamburger," a fictional fast food chain which could either be a parody of McDonald's or the Japanese burger chain MosBurger.
  • When a customer of Magnetron Burger spots Chiyo behind the desk, he assumes he's on a hidden camera show because of her young age.
  • When the girls are at Chiyo's summer house, Osaka says that if they were on a TV show, the murders would start at this point, and then describes how the scenario of the show would go.

Unanswered Questions[]

  • Where Yukari got her inflatable shark from is a mystery.
  • Osaka obsesses over hemorrhoids in this chapter. What suddenly got her thinking of them is unknown to both the reader, and to a very confused, uncomfortable Sakaki.
  • We do not find out the ending of Chiyo's ghost story, since Tomo interrupts her asking for racy stories instead.
  • Yukari says that Nyamo was most definitely not single last summer, but neither one of them is seen providing more details.

Memorable Moments[]

  • The clerk of Magnetron Burger incorrectly assumes that Chiyo must be very short of money, applying for a summer job despite being only ten years old. He simply cannot believe that she is in high school, and has no idea that Chiyo's family is in truth extremely rich and she only took the summer job in order to get more work life experience, appropriately enough for a high schooler. This is, however, shortly before we find out the full extent of the Mihama family's wealth.
  • Sakaki wants to buy the Neco Coneco kombo, but lies to Chiyo and Osaka about planning to give it to her cousin since she has not yet opened up about her soft centre.
  • When the girls find out that Chiyo-chan is not only extremely gifted, intelligent, capable and cute but also lives in a mansion, has two rooms to herself, and a summer house, they grow very envious, hardly even believing that it is true.
  • This is the chapter where Yukari causes Chiyo's car phobia.
  • Osaka tells a story where all the girls are murdered by herself. Two summers later, she inadvertently scares Yukari with a knife, though in the story she makes up here Tomo appears to have died from being strangled.
