  • Don't do it
  • Gimme
  • That was good
  • Coffeehouse
  • Graveyard
  • May you have luck
  • Osaka's idea
  • Not technically stealing
  • Fairyland class
  • Bunny outfit
  • Cute mascot
  • Make it look cuter

Part 2[]

  • Mascot
  • Get in the mood!
  • Friends
  • Tomo, at your service
  • Mystery creature
  • The water trade
  • Delicious water
  • Dunno
  • English teacher
  • I made them
  • At Tomo-chan's request
  • While you're at it
  • There is no inside
  • I've got the matches
  • Intruder?

  • Tomo often talks about how she always copies Yomi's homework, and here Yomi uses that as an argument as to why Tomo should give her a bite of her food. However, Tomo refuses.
  • Earlier, Chiyo wins a huge bunny plushie in a raffle at the market. The bunny is exhibited during the cultural festival in this chapter.
  • First, we find out that Sakaki has no artistic talent, and then her home-made cat and dog plushies are seen. They are inseparatable, even to herself.
  • Chiyo is seen with the Tsutenkaku Tower plushie a little while before Osaka explains what it is to Kokoro Kosaka.

Cultural References[]

  • Almost the entire chapter is about the cultural festival held at the school during the girls' first year.
  • One of the ideas for the class exhibition is a "haunted mansion," in reference to the whole idea of a house being haunted which is popularly used in culture.

Unanswered Questions[]

  • It is not known from where Tomo got the idea of putting a coin in the suggestion box so that it would have luck from, and then claiming that her actions were based on "The legend of the suggestion box."
  • It is hard to make out how Kimura could get into the classroom and show the girls a picture of a girl in a uniform on such short notice.
  • We do not know who is wearing the costume before Tomo takes it, or who made the costume. Though in the anime, it is Osaka who wears it first, and the girls make it together.
  • It is unknown who the foreigner visiting the cultural festival is, or why he is there.
  • Why Yukari runs away from the foreigner despite being able to speak English herself remains unanswered.
  • Sakaki can't tell Kokoro which one of her plushies that is a dog and which one is a cat, so we never find out.
  • It is not specified which part of the plushies that Osaka show Kokoro was "at Tomo-chan's request."
  • Kimura gets his hands on the costume and puts it on, but how is a mystery.

Memorable Moments[]

  • Osaka dreams about Chiyo's pigtails for the first time.
  • Sakaki's anonymous suggestion for the festival (a stuffed animal exhibit) is widely praised, but she is too shy to reveal that it was indeed hers.
  • Class 3's exhibition turns out to be a great hit.
  • Kokoro Kosaka from Wallaby makes a cameo here. In the last chapter of Wallaby, she announces plans to visit "the cultural festival at her friend's school", though she does not mention who her friend is and whether that person is an introduced character of Azumanga Daioh. She also keeps Wallaby in her pocket.
    • As an aside, when the chapter was adapted for television in episode 7, Kokoro and Wallaby were completely replaced by a totally different girl, likely to make the show as realistic as possible by removing all supernatural elements.
