  • Yukari says she hates losing, something which has become all too clear over the course of the series.

Cultural References[]

  • Osaka refers to Autumn as "the stomach season" since it is believed in Japan that one's appetite tends to increase in the fall.
  • Osaka talks about how weird it would be if you placed a snail in a bug collection.

Unanswered Questions[]

  • Tomo implies that Yomi has been mistaken for a college student and a secretary, but when this was we do not know.
  • Osaka asks if snails are insects, and how she got to think of this is unknown.
  • Osaka and Tomo pretend that they are in a bread-eating race. It is not found out where they got the bread they use from.
  • Chiyo gets a ball in the basket during the ball toss, but it is not known if the others did, or if she got in any more balls.
  • The reader does not learn how Chihiro sprained her ankle.
  • How Sakaki and Kaorin managed to untie the knot of their shoelaces.

Memorable Moments[]

  • The sports festival of the second year.
  • During the scavenger hunt, the item Chiyo is supposed to get is an "idiot". Chiyo then grabs Tomo without telling her why, and afterwards rips the piece of paper apart so that Tomo will never find out.
  • Osaka participates in the obstacle course (and performs terribly) just because she thought it would be fun to stick her face into flour to find a piece of candy.
  • Here, Tomo mentions that she thinks there should be a bread-eating event during the sports festival, something Osaka takes very seriously and keeps referring to.
  • Chiyo, Tomo and Osaka – all bad athletes – try to get one, three and five balls into the basket during the ball toss, respectively. But Chiyo is the only one seen accomplishing her goal.
  • It is here that Kaorin's best friend Chihiro is named for the first time.
  • Kaorin gets to participate in the three-legged race together with Sakaki, something the former is very grateful for.
  • Class 3 wins the sports festival again.

16px-Quote1 Darn it, this whole time, I reckoned matsutake was just a more evolved shiitake. Now I gotta rethink it all! Are they even more different than curry and Hayashi rice!? 16px-Quote2
Osaka (to Sakaki)
16px-Quote1 I'm going to get bigger and bigger!

I still get mistaken for an elementary school student, though.'' 16px-Quote2

16px-Quote1 Well, they don't think I'm a little kid … But I do get mistaken for a middle schooler. That sucks!

I wish I got confused for a college student or a secretary, like Yomi!'' 16px-Quote2

16px-Quote1 A shark's a fish. A dolphin's a mammal. So it follows to ask … Is a snail an insect? 16px-Quote2
Osaka (to Yomi)
16px-Quote1 A team working together, fighting hard, and seizing victory … Isn't that a beautiful thing? AND MORE PRACTICALLY SPEAKING, ¥10,000 IS A BEAUTIFUL THING!! 16px-Quote2
16px-Quote1 WORK! WORK FOR ME, SLAVE!! 16px-Quote2
Tomo (to Kagura)
16px-Quote1 Hey, so what was your scavenger item supposed to be? A beautiful older girl? Your personal hero? 16px-Quote2
Tomo (to Chiyo)
16px-Quote1 Well, she pretty much demanded to do this one. You know the part where you stick your face into the flour to find a piece of candy? She was really set on doing that. 16px-Quote2
Yomi (to Tomo, on Osaka)
16px-Quote1 Can I at least offer you this flag as a memorial of our – 16px-Quote2
